Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico

5/19/2015

Sunny 80 deg. F today.  Drove I-285 from Brantley State Park, NM to Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico to visit the Cavern.

We stopped and emptied our storage tanks when leaving the Brantley State Park.  The drive took us about 1 hour.  We are starting to see more flat land now and fewer mountains.

The Carlsbad Caverns are 750 below the surface.  We had the choice of walking the 1.5-hour hike down to the Big Room of the cave from the caves main entrance or take the 9 mph elevator down from the Visitors Center.  We choose the elevator.  Kinda scary traveling in an elevator so far below the surface on purpose.  We enjoyed every min. of the hike once we got down there.  The cave is enormous.  The sites are extraordinary.

After spending 2 hours in The Big Room of the cave, we walked to the natural entrance of the Cave.  Very interesting indeed.  Below The Big, Room is a lower level to tour as well. Would take another hour or so to complete.  Enormous Cave for sure.

After exploring the Carlsbad Caverns, we continued South to Texas.
