Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park, WY

5/7/2015

Cool last night.  Temperature got around 30 Deg. F.  Snowing this morning.  Beautiful out but no sunshine.  Becky Itinerary says we are heading North today to Mammoth Hot Springs.  We didn't get started until around 12:30 because we wanted the snow to melt on the roads.  You don't want Ice on roads like these.  At least I don't.  Sun in and out  today. First stop Gibbon Falls.  The water is traveling really fast because of the Snow in the mountains melting.

The road we are taking to Mammoth Hot Springs is under construction and we were to expect 30 min. delay.  Boy was that an understatement.  The road was terrible, ruts and holes everywhere, not to mention the mud from the rain and snow fall.  I guess we had about an hour delay instead of 30 min.  I'm really surprised they were allowing people to drive on this road.
Road Construction on our way to Mammoth Hot Springs was terrible.  About 45 min. going through this.

We made it to the Hot Springs.  Stopped at Norris Basin on the way.

Mammoth Hot Springs everywhere. Sulfur smell and blue hot waters.  We are warned to stay on the path or the acids in the water will melt away our skin.  No problem, we will stay on the path.

Mammoth Hot Springs.  Use to be Army barracks.  The US Army was in charge of running Yellowstone.
