Myakka River State Park FL, Camping

Myakka River State Park, Fl

Brian and Diego came to Florida to pick their car and dog Max up and return home.  Brian Diego and Greg had planned a overnight camping trip.  We headed out for Myakka River State Park, in Sarasota Florida.  Becky and I have camped there several times over the years.

After checking in at the Ranger Station, we proceeded to the Nature Center.

After learning about the park and it's residence, we continued on to the alligator water hole.  This is the famous bridge well know for alligator watching.  Today, hot overcast and lots of flooding, the gators were keeping cool below the surface. Normally you will see a dozen or more gators lounging around.

A little ways down the road we stopped at a popular trail to see the the freestanding observation tower.  Several feet in the air you can see for a long distance over the park.

Diego finds several snail shells under a tree.  We guessed the snails were a meal for a bird that enjoyed in the trees and dropped the shells after removing the snail.

The trails were very wet with water standing in places.  Diego and I continued on to the observation tower.

We then went on down the road to the Gift shop which was closed by the time we arrived.  Nobody around made it nice to take our time and just observe nature.  We knew which camping site we wanted but when we arrive somebody was in our site.  Rather that make a fuss we set up camp at the next site which was probably there site.

Dinner consisted of hotdogs for Diego, with a side of whole kernel corn and notch chips.  Brian and I had to wait a bit longer for our chicken breast to thaw and cook.  Everything was agreed to be good.  Desert was the best though, S'mores.

Playing in the fire was the best entertainment for the two boys.  Both enjoyed the effects a good campfire does.

We had a visitor after eating.  A friendly Raccoon keep inching his was to us trying to find any scraps we might had dropped.

Leaving the next morning, we saw more deer.  The park is full of deer for sure.  Always fun to see and admire.

After arriving home, the boys loaded up and headed North for obligations they had in Indiana.  So nice having my boys around.  Great people and Proud Grandpa and Dad.
