South Dakota 2
4/27/2015
We entered South Dakota early today. We are experiencing beautiful scenery as we travel. Stopped at rest stop to pick up any tourist information. Since the area experiences so much wind they place their picnic tables with enclosures. Wind does blow a lot across I-90.
So many ranches and farms with thousands of acres for miles. Nearest neighbor has to be quite away.
Greg still driving and managing the windy conditions. They have railroad arms that come down and close these roads when they have bad weather.
Not
visible in these pictures but they have pheasants that walk along the
shoulders pecking at the road. Guess they are looking for insects or
grain that falls from the trucks.
Crossing the Missouri River near a small town called Pickstown. Has a population around 206.
Exit
260 near Chamberlain was a fun place to stop. Front of buildings look
similar to a western town but are fake. We bought our 1st souvenir at
Al's Oasis.
Look like moguls you would find skiing.
Gas we paid $2.47 today. Hope this trend doesn't continue.

More cattle in the state than people.
We
took the scenic route most of the day on the Oyate Trail on Hwy 50 and
18. Made our way back to WINDY I-90 to find 1 of 12 Walmart's in South
Dakota. Looks like closest one is in Pierre, their state capital. Next
stop Rapid City.
