Myakka River State Park, Fl 08/11/2017 Brian and Diego came to Florida to pick their car and dog Max up and return home.  Brian Diego and Greg had planned a overnight camping trip.  We headed out for Myakka River State Park, in Sarasota Florida.  Becky and I have camped there several times over the years. After checking in at the Ranger Station, we proceeded to the Nature Center.  After learning about the park and it's residence, we continued on to the alligator water hole.  This is the famous bridge well know for alligator watching.  Today, hot overcast and lots of flooding, the gators were keeping cool below the surface. Normally you will see a dozen or more gators lounging around. A little ways down the road we stopped at a popular trail to see the the freestanding observation tower.  Several feet in the air you can see for a long distance over the park. The largest tract of public land in Tennessee, Cherokee National Forest is located in East Tennessee, stretching from Chattanooga to Bristol along the North Carolina border. The 640,000-acre Cherokee National Forest lies in the heart of the Southern Appalachian mountain range, a remarkably diverse area. A place of scenic beauty and home to more than 20,000 species of plants and animals, Cherokee National Forest is visited by millions each year.  The forest contains such notable sites as Ocoee River; 150 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail; Citico Creek Wilderness; Big Frog Mountain within Big Frog Wilderness and Watauga Reservoir. Recreational opportunities in the forest are diverse: trout fishing, wind sailing, water skiing, boating, hiking and equestrian trails. Camping is available for RVs, primitive and tent camping. 9/9/2015 Becky and Greg heading North to Ocala FL. About a 3.5 hour drive. We took I75 to I40 to I19.  The largest campground in the Ocala National Forest and the only one with full hookups for RVs, the Salt Springs Campground inside Salt Springs Recreation Area  offers 106 RV/trailer sites and a designated tenting area for up to 54 tents. Sites are nicely shaded and well away from the bustle of the day use area. 9/10/2015 We visited the Salt Springs a bike ride away from the campground.  Salt Springs Recreation Area is one of the recreational jewels of the Ocala National Forest. The recreation area is located in the lush, semi-tropical setting of central Florida. Within the recreation area is a natural spring rising from vertical fissures (cracks) from deep within the earth.
