Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee



The largest tract of public land in Tennessee, Cherokee National Forest is located in East Tennessee, stretching from Chattanooga to Bristol along the North Carolina border. The 640,000-acre Cherokee National Forest lies in the heart of the Southern Appalachian mountain range, a remarkably diverse area.

A place of scenic beauty and home to more than 20,000 species of plants and animals, Cherokee National Forest is visited by millions each year. 
The forest contains such notable sites as Ocoee River; 150 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail; Citico Creek Wilderness; Big Frog Mountain within Big Frog Wilderness and Watauga Reservoir.




Recreational opportunities in the forest are diverse: trout fishing, wind sailing, water skiing, boating, hiking and equestrian trails.




Camping is available for RVs, primitive and tent camping. Upon entering this national forest, the 80-foot high Laurel
Falls is located just off the Appalachian Trail.

Blue Spring State Park covers more than 2,600 acres, including the largest spring on the St. Johns River. Blue Spring is a designated manatee refuge and the winter home to a growing population of West Indian Manatees. During manatee season, which approximately runs from mid-November through March, several hundred manatees can be viewed atop the spring’s overlooks on cold days. The spring and spring run are closed to all water activity from mid-November to at least mid-March.  Swimming or diving with manatees is not permitted; this rule is strictly enforced. A short drive from Orlando, this 4,500-acre park is noted for its beautiful lakes, rolling hills, and scenic landscapes. Lake Louisa, the largest in a chain of 13 lakes, is designated as an Outstanding Florida Water Way.
