2015 - Henderson KY Payne Family Visit

8/2/2015 - Sunday
Drove to Henderson KY to Becky's Aunt Sara-May's home.  We enjoyed talking to Sara-May and family.  Daughter Lynda and Son Rickie came over with there families.  They ordered pizza for us all.  Interesting talking about Becky's family.

8/3/2015 - Monday
Drove to John James Audubon - Kentucky State Parks in Henderson KY.  Becky's Dad worked developing the Park with the CCC crew 1540 in 1938.
John James Audubon History
Established October 3, 1934

Work began on the John James Audubon State Park on October 3, 1938. The Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) Number 1540 constructed cabins, gardens, shelter houses, picnic areas, a lake, trails, and a museum. The Audubon Memorial Museum is an impressive structure designed as a replica of a Norman-French inn to honor Audubon’s French heritage. Architects Donald Corley representing the WPA and Barnard Stebbins of Kentucky designed the museum building. The structure has a round tower that has nesting places for birds. A cobbled courtyard with French garden graces the immediate grounds of the museum.

We stopped back at Aunt Sara-Mays and Becky continued with her questions and stories of her past.  Lynda came over after her work around 4:00 p.m. and took us for a drive around town.  Becky was able to see the home she lived in when she was born.  She also saw the apartments she lived in as a young child.  Lynda drove us by Becky's cousins home on the River and he was in the yard working.  We stopped and chatted with him a while.  Becky was glad to see him.

8/4/2015 - Tuesday
We left the Park around 11:00 a.m. and drove the the cemetery where Becky's Dad, Archie Greco is buried.  Nice cemetery, we placed a fresh bouquet of flowers and showed our respect.

After we left the cemetery, we visited the Henderson Public library to do some research on Becky's Dad and the CCC group he worked with.  Interesting and very time consuming researching.  The lady at the library was very helpful and directed us to a gentleman historian in town that was very familiar with the CCC and the Park.

We felt accomplished after leaving Henderson.  Becky was able to visit with family she hasn't seen for years.  She was also able to ask questions and find out a little bit more about her family and childhood.  We are very appreciative of Aunt Sara-May for all her help and time she spent with us answering questions and digging out old pictures to help explain the family's past.

One last stop before we leave.  Becky was able to talk to another cousin Rhonda and Randy Yates.  We drove to there home and visited for a short while.
