1/6/2015 Highlands Hammock State Park Overview Video: Tuesday 1/6/2015 Becky and Greg visited Highland Hammock State Park Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Beautiful small park about 2 hours North East from our home. Camp sites are fairly close together but plenty of trees providing shade. We rode our bikes around the Park and explored the CCC museum . The trials are about 20-30 min. In length, but beautiful swamp, nature, large Cypress trees, and wildlife. No gators spotted this time, but I'm sure they spotted us. After hiking 3 trails, we rode our bikes on the off road bike trails. The scenery was not as nice as the scenery on the walking trails, but good exercise. BICYCLING A paved loop drive through the hammock offers nature study and is ideal for cyclists as bicycles are not permitted on the nature trails. 12/2/2014 YouTube - Our Kodiak Adventures Happy Birthday to my wife Becky. Today we left Everglades National Park traveled 140 miles to Key West Florida . Our goal was to have our picture taken next to the Furthest South Marker in the United States on Becky's Birthday. The scenery is beautiful. Speed limits are from 35 mph to 45 mph the entire trip. Go thing the scenery is nice or it would be a long trip. The Keys consist of several Islands connected by bridges. Key West being the furthest in the chain. We stopped at Bahia Honda State Park on the way to hopefully get a campsite for the night on our return trip from Key West. We were lucky and got the last spot they had available. After checking out the site, we continued on to Key West. We took the City View Trolley Tours . $18.00 each and was able to hop on and off all day. 12/1/2014 Becky and I left around 11:00 a.m. and drove from Collier-Seminole State Park to Everglades City, about 20 miles from Collier-Seminole. Nice historic town and a nice place to visit on our way to Everglades National Park. We stopped at the Everglades Museum . The museum use to be a laundromat in the late 20's.  Rod and Gun Club   We walked around a viewed the oldest building along the river. Stopped at the Visitors Center on our way out of town. Lots of information on Air Boat rides and Alligator shows. History The area around Chokoloskee Bay, including the site of Everglades City, was occupied for thousands of years by Native Americans of the Glades culture , who were absorbed by the Calusa shortly before the arrival of Europeans in the New World, but by the time Florida was transferred from Spain to the United States in 1821, the area was uninhabited.
