Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee

The largest tract of public land in Tennessee, Cherokee National Forest is located in East Tennessee, stretching from Chattanooga to Bristol along the North Carolina border. The 640,000-acre Cherokee National Forest lies in the heart of the Southern Appalachian mountain range, a remarkably diverse area. A place of scenic beauty and home to more than 20,000 species of plants and animals, Cherokee National Forest is visited by millions each year.  The forest contains such notable sites as Ocoee River; 150 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail; Citico Creek Wilderness; Big Frog Mountain within Big Frog Wilderness and Watauga Reservoir. Recreational opportunities in the forest are diverse: trout fishing, wind sailing, water skiing, boating, hiking and equestrian trails. Camping is available for RVs, primitive and tent camping. Venice Myakka River Park

This park allows visitors the experience of scenic views of the Myakka River and lush vegetation along the shore. There is a paved trail for biking or walking under shady oaks and palm trees. ​ Hours Open year round. April-October  6 a.m. - 8 p.m. November-March  6 a.m. - 6 p.m.  The Park has a great launch area for Kayakers.  We paddled the Myakka River for a couple hours enjoying the beautiful day.
