Biscayne National Park - Florida

Image
12/5/2014 Spent the night at Everglades National Park on our return trip from Key West Florida. We are on our way to Biscayne National Park. We drove by Homestead Miami Speedway to see where Derek, my Son, is going to race December 31st this year in a 24 hour Chump Car Race with Crank Yankers Racing Team. Biscayne National Park History and Culture: Tequesta Indian man free-dives for conch from a dugout canoe. A Bahamian woman watches the sunset across a tidal creek after a hard day's work. A ship grinds against a knife-edged reef while a violent wind howls. Wealthy industrialists gather under a shady palm to toss horseshoes. The parade of human history in Biscayne National Park spans 10,000 years. Although Biscayne National Park was established for its natural history, signs of people and the many ways they have used these lands and waters is everywhere. Nearly every island in the park has evidence of use by native peoples. Underwater, shipwrecks rest as silent

12/2/2014 YouTube - Our Kodiak Adventures Becky and I returned to Bahia Honda State Park after spending the day at Key West Fl. We are both tired, but had a wonderful time in Key West.  Lots of history, very interesting to us both. Bahia Honda State Park Camping   has water, electric, and sewage.  Some sites are right on the water, but ours was not. Small campground but lots to do.  We could hear the traffic on the bridge but wasn't to bad. Bahia Honda State Panrk Overview Video:   Becky and I rode our bikes through the campsites and down the road a mile or so to additional sites.  Nice water sites for both tents and RV's. The Old East Coast Railway Tracks  were constructed to the Key's in the 30's but during high hurricane winds, caused the train to crash into the water killing several hundred passengers. The tracks were never repaired but still exist.   YouTube - Our Kodiak A

Our goal was to have our picture taken next to the Furthest South Marker in the United States on Becky's Birthday. The scenery is beautiful. Speed limits are from 35 mph to 45 mph the entire trip. Go thing the scenery is nice or it would be a long trip. The Keys consist of several Islands connected by bridges. Key West being the furthest in the chain. We stopped at Bahia Honda State Park on the way to hopefully get a campsite for the night on our return trip from Key West. We were lucky and got the last spot they had available. After checking out the site, we continued on to Key West. We took the City View Trolley Tours . $18.00 each and was able to hop on and off all day. We got our tickets online and showed they ticket counter our smartphone receipt and received $2.00 off for ordering online, and $1.00 off for
