Everglades City

12/1/2014 Becky and I left around 11:00 a.m. and drove from Collier-Seminole State Park to Everglades City, about 20 miles from Collier-Seminole. Nice historic town and a nice place to visit on our way to Everglades National Park. We stopped at the Everglades Museum . The museum use to be a laundromat in the late 20's.  Rod and Gun Club   We walked around a viewed the oldest building along the river. Stopped at the Visitors Center on our way out of town. Lots of information on Air Boat rides and Alligator shows. History The area around Chokoloskee Bay, including the site of Everglades City, was occupied for thousands of years by Native Americans of the Glades culture , who were absorbed by the Calusa shortly before the arrival of Europeans in the New World, but by the time Florida was transferred from Spain to the United States in 1821, the area was uninhabited.
